Too Much, Too Early

Oh your face it looks so gorgeous,
and your dress looks so suggestive.
No, I wouldn't want to miss this.
Are you looking for adventure?
I can make it last forever.
Come on, baby. Come on over.
I am so...
I am so...
I am so in love with you.
It's a shame that it can't pan out today.
I am so...
I am so in love with you.
It's a shame that it can't pan out today.

A Face

I failed to decipher the end, but not for the second time.
The answer was clear and disturbances crowded my mind.
But all the restlessness stalls at a face.
The world of silence is something to take on.

You stepped out for a few minutes.
You had to exchange some money at the bank.
The washing machines only take quarters.
You left for a few hours this morning.
You had to go to grocery store.
We were running low on milk.
You went out for a day to attend an interview.
I heard they usually ask difficult questions.
I hope you did okay.
I'm crossing my fingers.
You were out of town for a week.
You always wanted to go traveling like this.
I'm glad you're having a nice time.
You left me alone for a month.
Family is always important.
I hope I learn Spanish quickly.
Maybe I will better understand your grandfather's jokes.
You were away for a few months.
There are a lot things you need to prepare yourself for.
Medical school is a pretty big deal.
We were almost apart for four years.
I'm glad I decided to come with you this time.

Leaf

I'm growing tired of seeing myself covered in bees.
It's like I'm wearing yellow or looking at a beehive in the wrong way.
I'm turning over a new leaf.
I'm asking everyone to listen.
I wake up everyday at 5 AM to watch the sunrise.
Maybe I'll get lucky when the glare leaves my eyes, and I'll see you.
Please don't leave me all alone.
...or I'll just go home.
Yesterday was a painful day.
I left some things strange and unexplained.
I think I'll sit and wonder how I played.
I think I'll sit and ponder all the fame.
I think I'll sit and think about your name.
I think I'll sit and overlook how I changed.
Don't look back on this.
Don't look back on this.
Don't look back on this.
Though I know you...
Don't look back on this.
Don't look back on this.
Don't look back on this.
Though I know you...
Don't look back on this.
Don't look back on this.
Don't look back on this.
Though I know you care.
I admit sometimes I shock myself when I'm on my own.
Maybe I'm still growing. Pretty soon I'll know.

High Hopes

Love can never truly be defined
as well as when the two of us spend time
looking in each other's eyes,
as you place your hand inside of mine.
Let me gain the final strength to say...
And I will now no longer hesitate.
These words that I've prepared for you
have cycled through my mind up to this day.
I know, my dear,
things can be as simple as they first appear.
Life will toss and turn us in the coming year,
but all the moments that I spend with you
will always be enough to pull me through.
You know you shouldn't worry if you do.
Everything grows quiet. This is true.
But the thing that I just might love most
is drifting in and out of sleep with you.
'Cause I know, my dear,
things can be as simple as they first appear.
Life will toss and turn us in the coming year,
but all the moments that I spend with you
will always be enough to pull me through.
And my world is made anew with you leaning on my shoulder.
As I'm lying here with you, I can feel myself grow bolder all for
every word I can assure you.
Let me whisper slowly in your ear
that I know, my dear,
things can be as simple as they first appear.
Life will toss and turn us in the coming year,
but all the moments that I spend with you
will always be enough to pull me through.
My dear,
things can be as simple as they first appear.
Life will toss and turn us in the coming year,
but all the moments that I spend with you
will always be enough to pull me through.
Here's to all my high hopes coming true.

June 9th

I spent the afternoon staring at the ceiling fan.
The room I was lying in was bare, except for a few blankets and
neat piles of documents arranged on the floor in a calculated manner.
I didn't know what to do. Well, I guess I had some ideas.
Read, take out the trash, go to the bathroom, watch a movie,
cook dinner, take a nap, go for a walk, fill out paperwork,
clip my toenails, practice drumming on pots and pans,
play with the cat, eat.
But I didn't want to do any of those things.
I'm glad things didn't stay that way.
I'll never have to be alone like that ever again.
Oddly enough, the blankets weren't warm enough that night.
I had to wrap them around and beneath my feet to keep the heat in.
Eventually, I put on a sweater.
My stomach was rather talkative while I was trying to sleep.
The stir fry I had for dinner really wanted me to hear what it had to say.
I listened because I had no other choice.
I'm glad things didn't have to stay that way.
I'll never have to be alone like that ever again.

My Discovery

Congratulations are in order.
Let us jump-start all the motors for the day.
As the floats each leave the station,
brass, winds and percussion lead the way.
The crowds jump in elation when the dancers form a line,
and my heart beats syncopation 'cause I know that it's for my
revelation, my discovery, my wondrous find.
And they're sayin',
"Man what have you been playin'?
How did you come across the most beautiful girl in the world?"
There are men in stilts and top hats
and they throw confetti clouds at everyone.
Balloons and colored streamers
that seem fit for hopeful dreamers are pulled along.
And they're shoutin',
"Let the pigeons out and send them across the earth
with letters describing this girl."
And everyone will agree.

It's Not Easy

It's not easy being Paul.
I'm the one who takes it all.
Waking up above the walls,
early mornings after all.
Faint reflections on the sea.
Water paintings set me free.
When you point in the general direction
of a black cloud in the evening sky
dropping lightly felt rain,
you're pointing at me.
When you stare in the general direction
of a black cloud in the evening sky
dropping lightly felt rain,
when you cry 'cause you don't have a roof over your head,
your feet planted in the ground,
water dripping on your face,
when you stand on a platform perpetually in a daze,
while the winds start to turn
and the ocean's throwing waves,
I'll be drinking hot tea.
