lyrics

I spent the afternoon staring at the ceiling fan.
The room I was lying in was bare, except for a few blankets and
neat piles of documents arranged on the floor in a calculated manner.

I didn't know what to do. Well, I guess I had some ideas.
Read, take out the trash, go to the bathroom, watch a movie,
cook dinner, take a nap, go for a walk, fill out paperwork,
clip my toenails, practice drumming on pots and pans,
play with the cat, eat.

But I didn't want to do any of those things.

I'm glad things didn't stay that way.
I'll never have to be alone like that ever again.

Oddly enough, the blankets weren't warm enough that night.
I had to wrap them around and beneath my feet to keep the heat in.
Eventually, I put on a sweater.

My stomach was rather talkative while I was trying to sleep.
The stir fry I had for dinner really wanted me to hear what it had to say.
I listened because I had no other choice.

I'm glad things didn't have to stay that way.
I'll never have to be alone like that ever again.
